About LumiGameLab
Free. Browser-based. Educational. Curated, not aggregated. Independently run since 2019.
What is LumiGameLab?
LumiGameLab is a curated library of free educational games that you can play instantly in your browser. We focus on the titles that make learning feel less like work: math drills wrapped in satisfying puzzle loops, vocabulary exercises that actually hold your attention, quick geography quizzes that build a real mental map of the world, physics sandboxes where intuition comes from playing rather than reading, memory games that scale smoothly from three pairs to twenty, and short science challenges that teach ideas instead of facts.
Every game on the site plays instantly on desktop or mobile. No downloads, no pop-up installers, no account sign-ups. You click a thumbnail, the game loads, you learn something. Browse by subject, by skill, or jump into the newest arrivals.
Who runs LumiGameLab
LumiGameLab is run by a small independent team of educators and game enthusiasts â not a venture-backed media company and not an affiliate farm. The site has been live since 2019 and is operated day-to-day by Marvin (lead editor and developer) along with a couple of part-time reviewers who sit down with each game and actually play through a few levels before it gets published. Between us we have shipped mobile and web games, worked in front-end engineering, and spent our fair share of time watching kids fail and then suddenly succeed at fraction puzzles. Every page on this site â descriptions, how-to-play steps, tips, FAQs â is written by a human on our team, reviewed before publication, and updated when the underlying game changes.
We are reachable. If you want to know who wrote something or why a game is on the site, email [email protected] and you will get a reply from an actual person.
Why we built it
"Educational games" has always been a slightly embarrassed corner of the web. Most of what gets tagged "educational" is either too childish for anyone above age seven, or a thin wrapper around a single textbook page with a cartoon mascot glued on. We wanted a site that respected the player's time and attention â one with a short list of genuinely well-made titles, organised by the subject you actually want to practise, with enough written context around each game that you know what you are getting before you click.
LumiGameLab is funded by display advertising so it can stay free to play. We do not sell user data, we do not require accounts, and we do not run pre-roll video ads on individual games.
Where the games come from
LumiGameLab's catalog is licensed from reputable HTML5 game distribution networks â chiefly GameDistribution and similar partners. That means the developers who build the games get credit and paid through the distributor's revenue share, and players get titles that are safe to load, free of malware, and tuned for browser play. We embed each game in its own frame, add our own write-up â how to play, tips, features, and a short FAQ â and organise everything into educational categories and skill topics that make browsing faster.
We do not claim ownership over third-party games. The LumiGameLab name, the category pages, the written explanations, the layout, and the site design are ours. The games themselves belong to their respective developers.
How we choose and review games
Not every educational game is a good educational game. Before a title lands on LumiGameLab we play through a few levels and ask a set of questions: Does it teach something real, or just paint a lesson over a generic mechanic? Is the difficulty curve believable for the age range it targets? Do the visuals avoid dark patterns and intrusive interstitial ads? Does it load quickly on a typical mobile connection and respect the player's time between rounds? Titles that do well on those checks get published. Titles that feel like reskins, are broken on mobile, or beg you to watch a 30-second ad between every question get left out.
We review the library on an ongoing basis. Broken embeds get removed within a week of being reported. Games that start injecting aggressive interstitials after a publisher update get pulled. Our editorial descriptions are refreshed whenever a game ships a significant update. If you spot something out of date, tell us â the Support page or a direct email is the fastest path.
Editorial independence
We do not accept payment to rank, feature, or review games. Nobody pays to be on a category page, nobody pays to be in the "featured" shelf on the homepage, and there are no sponsored slots hidden in the grid. When a game appears on LumiGameLab it is because the editorial team decided it belongs there based on the criteria above.
Revenue comes from standard display advertising served alongside the catalog (disclosed in our Privacy Policy) and, in a smaller share, from the revenue split built into the third-party game distribution networks we license from. That revenue share is paid to us and the game's original developer regardless of how a title performs on our site â it does not change when we promote a game. See our Terms for the full rules of the road.
Our sibling sites
LumiGameLab is part of a small network of niche browser-game sites we run, each focused on a single genre instead of trying to be an everything-portal:
- PhyFun â physics-based games and ragdoll puzzles.
- SortFun â sorting and logic puzzles.
- 2PlayerFun â couch-multiplayer games you can play on one device with a friend.
